📣 LOCAL LOWDOWN

What To Do About PFAs in the Water

At the October 21st Hastings City Council meeting, Dan Wietecha outlined a plan to address PFAS contamination in local water.

The plan was to build one water treatment plant per year for three years, starting with the Eastern plant. However, recent developments have led to a pivot.

The first plant will now be the Central plant, located off North Frontage Road. This change uses funds from the 3M settlement. It reduces the need for a steep water rate hike.

The new strategy calls for a lower increase than the proposed 37.3% hike. Estimates now range from 20-22%.

The City will implement this increase in two phases: 10% on January 1, 2025. The rest will be adjusted mid-year based on updated project costs and funding.

A second water rate increase is expected in July 2025.

It gives more time to secure state and grant funding. This may further reduce the financial impact on our Hastings neighbors.

2024 Veterans Day Jamboree 🏒
The United Heroes League is hosting a jamboree for Veterans Day on November 9th, from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, at the Tradition Veterans Complex! There will be food trucks, hockey, a beer garden, live music, a sports memorabilia auction & more! You can attend for free, and they are taking donations to fund their rink. Floral & Gift Shop Opening 💐
VMS Designs has transitioned to Hastings Flower Co., and is excited to expand and better serve Hastings and nearby areas. They will carry a large gift collection for home decor, special occasions, and especially, sympathy gifts! They are opening across the street from Dugarel’s.
